That is what it is about

A bestially brutal gang of serial killers dismember their victims on camera for the darknet. When Detective Choi Jae-hwan finally catches their leader, they both fall down a slope. It is not until a month later that he reappears - but: trapped in the killer's body! While he is being arrested, the killer walks straight to Choi's wife and daughter. The inspector desperately tries to solve the mystery and unmask the real culprit. Meanwhile, the murders continue ...

What you should know

Hard-hitting Korean crime action meets subjects from FACE/OFF or FREAKY and creates its own bastard full of twists that doesn't shy away from brutal gore. DEVILS pursues its very obviously megalomaniacal body-swapping story with such seriousness that one is reminded of old-school cinema in the most positive sense. With Oh Dae-hwan (VETERAN) as the cop and Jang Dong-yoon (PROJECT WOLF HUNTING) as his psycho counterpart. They both play devils.

Direction

DEVILS, which he also wrote, is Kim Jae-hoon's directorial debut - which is hard to believe thanks to the masterful staging. Celebrated at its international premiere at the Fantasia Festival, the work is clearly in the tradition of hard, bloody crime/revenge thrillers from South Korea such as I SAW THE DEVIL or THE CHASER, but brings a really fresh component to the game with its body-swapping theme. Just like some of Kim's fine visual ideas. All we can say is UV bodypaint!
