That is what it is about

Deep in the northern Canadian wilderness, a small team is researching a mysterious structure that has been buried in the snow for thousands of years. With its discovery, however, strange occurrences begin to accumulate: Workers disappear without a trace, contact with the outside world breaks off and an unknown bacterium contaminates the camp. Something dark and nameless is haunting the troop... Dark and inescapable, it follows its unholy path to the bitter end.

What you should know

The references for this extraordinary horror thriller are unmistakable and omnipresent. If the attentive viewer initially suspects a close proximity to THE THING and SHINING, this film visibly emancipates itself and turns into one of the most interesting contributions of recent years. The melange of classic material, a pinch of DONNIE DARKO and an uncanny sense for the horror of the absurd make this a strange, courageous and virtuoso genre film.

Direction

Canadian director Nick Szostakiwskyj made his directorial debut with KANKERED, but this comedy can only be described as a finger exercise at best. After a few short films and TV movies in which he occupied various positions in film production, he returned to the director's chair last year and revealed his extraordinary talent. BLACK MOUNTAIN SIDE was frenetically celebrated and awarded at many festivals in North America.
