That is what it is about

Everyone calls old Sadyk "Stinker." He himself also stinks of something: his life. While attempting to take his own life, however, he is interrupted by an alien who crashes into the Kazakh wilderness in a neon green pile of poop. He turns out to be a nice guy who wants to get home quickly—as comfortable as it is in the local outhouse. Time is running out: government officials are combing the area to clear it of anything undesirable for a high-ranking visitor. Especially stinkers...

What you should know

Are aliens better people? After watching this warmly charming and hilariously funny film, one is (once again) inclined to say yes. Featuring a powerful score and very handmade mask effects, it uses black humor to show how easily we could make Earth a better place. A crazy sci-fi dramedy from, excuse me, the middle of nowhere, that begins at the end. Namely, the credits. Fortunately, that's when it really gets going.

SASYQ is the film directorial debut of Yerden Telemissov, who previously appeared as an actor in SLOW HORSES, among other films. In telling his story, which is both touching and laugh-out-loud funny, he has no qualms about dealing with gruff, grumpy characters, feces, and other delights. Winner of the Best Actor award at the Fantasia Festival, this Kazakh gem is a real crowd-pleaser – as evidenced by the audience award at the last Weird Weekender.
