That is what it is about

Bachelorette parties rarely turn out as desired. This is especially true for the soon-to-be-married Casey, who unceremoniously moves the party to Costa Rica with her bosom friends: too much alcohol, an attractive man and an insect bite. The latter has an unexpected effect and what starts as a skin rash leads to a complete transformation of the young woman. Not only on the outside does Casey transform beyond recognition. An inhuman desire for flesh stirs within her....

What you should know

David Cronenberg's THE FLY is probably considered the prototype for the term "body horror" and indeed the references to this film-historical anchor point are also unmistakable in BITE. Nevertheless, jack-of-all-trades Chad Archibald goes his own way with his film. His smacky, juicy horror shocker combines the nauseating surface with a clever story and handmade effects for horror nostalgics. For BITE you definitely need both: a strong stomach and a desire to think.

Direction

After THE DROWNSMAN and EJECTA, Chad Archibald turns to a fundamentally different subject again in his sixth feature film and delivers his very own contribution to the body horror genre. Once again he shows that he is a highly variable director who is one of the most promising Canadian talents, not least because of his staging skills. Chad is a stroke of luck for the current independent horror landscape and a director worth discovering!
