That is what it is about

Brooklyn in 1945, the war has been over for a few months. The renowned war veteran Lt. Col. Hockstatter invites four friends and war comrades to his home. They have all known each other since childhood. But instead of chatting about old times, Hockstatter asks his friends to take part in a séance with him to get in touch with his deceased wife. The veterans are skeptical, but through the incantation they actually open a portal to the afterlife. With fatal consequences ...

What you should know

Who fancies a bit of TALK TO ME and a pinch of THE HATEFUL EIGHT? Who wants to hear the ghosts of the past rumbling in more than just a figurative sense? Et voilà: BROOKLYN 45 - a mixture of war drama and ghost horror, but definitely a supernatural chamber play the likes of which have rarely been seen before. The film celebrated its world premiere at the South By Southwest Film Festival 2023. At HARD:LINE, BROOKLYN 45 sets the tone on Thursday and kicks off our festival as the opening film.

Direction

BROOKLYN 45 is the latest film from director Ted Geoghegan, to whom we are dedicating our Directors Spotlight this year. We will be seeing more of him in the coming days. For his metaphysical chamber drama, the US-American was able to assemble a well-known cast, including Jeremy Holm (HOUSE OF CARDS) and Larry Fessenden (YOU'RE NEXT, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL). In the role of the supposed spy: German-American actress Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN).

Our guests at the film screening

Ted Geoghegan

Ted Geoghegan is traveling across the Atlantic to attend the German premiere of his new film BROOKLYN 45. You will get to know the US-American film director and screenwriter even better as we dedicate our Directors Spotlight of the year to him. But if you were there in 2015, you may already know him: back then, we screened WE ARE STILL HERE (his debut film) as the opening film and German premiere. We wanted more of the eerie and creepy haunted house film: now we've got it: get ready for spooks, historical flair and goosebumps!
