A series of unsolved murders keeps the small town on tenterhooks, which doesn't stop Davey and his buddies from having the time of their lives. After all, it's the summer of '84 and you don't stay 15 forever. Gradually, the signs mount that the policeman next door might have something to do with the murders. For the kids there is no doubt: Mr Mackey is the killer. So Davey and the rest set out to tail him. But the "Cape May Slayer" has his eye on the little spies!
The Eighties are trending, that much is clear; and STRANGER THINGS is a major player in the aesthetic revival. The actual references could almost be forgotten in the process. SUMMER OF 84 easily makes up for this imbalance. For this nostalgia board is original, funny and incredibly likeable. With every step the kids take towards the finale, the suspense curve rises and the guesswork will have every Hitchcock fan bouncing in their cinema seat with laughter. What a wonderful film!
