That is what it is about

In the summer of 1996, nine children were abducted in Yorkshire, England. 25 years later, the perpetrator is about to be released, but there is still no trace of them. The father of one of the victims searches for his remains on his own in the nearby moor. When he receives support from Claire, who is plagued by feelings of guilt, and the medium Ellie, he expands the search. However, it soon becomes clear that the door to the spirit world is wide open on the moor, and something malevolent is trying to get out ...

What you should know

A nasty slowburner that eventually escalates to panicked heights: THE MOOR proves to be an atmospheric, superbly filmed cross between a true crime story, mystery and folk horror ghost movie. The constantly supernatural events also feel disturbingly realistic thanks to the measured use of "found footage" techniques such as interviews with contemporary witnesses and GoPro snippets. An impressively dark score rounds off this disturbing trip into the endless, barren moor perfectly.

Direction

Even before his feature debut, Chris Cronin was already earning a lot of applause with his short films - especially with OSCAR'S BELL, which won Best Short at the British Horror Film Festival 2018. THE MOOR then went on to win even more awards: at FrightFest 2023, for example, it was nominated for Best Director and Best Film and won the award for Best Scare. To what extent is THE MOOR inspired by the true story of the Moors Murders of 1963-65?
