That is what it is about

He hasn't seen the pipe for three years and suddenly it just happens to snow into his bar during a blizzard. Paul is not completely pleased to see Steve again after such a long time. When he then also offers to settle his old debts with a story, the measure is full. He calls "him" to take care of the Steve problem. Until Stelly arrives, Paul will wait and listen: A story within a story within a story... with one nasty message.

What you should know

We've known for a while that Cody Calahan is a must-see. But the fact that he's throwing such a massive creep of a neo-noir thriller at us was not to be expected. The story builds leisurely around the greatly reduced cast - weaving together characters, stories, motifs and pressing you deeper into the cinema seat with every second. Ingenious, incredibly entertaining and exciting right up to the last bar round, THE OAK ROOM is one of the absolute highlights of this year!

Direction

Calahan was actually born in Kingston, but somehow Toronto never left him. He had already made a documentary and various short films during his time at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Today he is respected worldwide as the director of ANTISOCIAL and LET HER OUT. His films are ambitious and multi-layered, making him a very exciting filmmaker. Calahan is also co-owner of Black Fawn Films, which can be confidently counted as part of the HARD:LINE family.
