That is what it is about

Suddenly, there is a hole in the asphalt in front of the shopping center. With it come sinister things to the small Canadian town of Westridge—and we are told all about them through a never-ending series of commercials on local television. These become increasingly grotesque and seem to want to convey a message. However, it is drowned out by the loud, garishly colorful commercials for the new "all-you-can-eat" restaurant Buffet Infinity. Then more and more people begin to disappear...

What you should know

Subversive indie cinema in trashy garb from the hell of 1990s private television: the film consists (almost) exclusively of handmade advertising clips of the trash variety, with contrast turned up so high it makes your eyes explode, which soon begin to refer to each other. An invisible hand zaps us through the garish flood of images, authentically recorded on an old VHS tape. The miraculous thing is that the narration actually manages to convey a coherent, extremely disturbing story.

Simon Glassman is a comedian and cartoonist from Edmonton who, with his feature film debut based on a 30-second YouTube sketch, has created a work that is as exhilarating as it is disturbing, parodying sci-fi horror while critiquing consumerism: heartfelt analog yet thoroughly contemporary. At its Fantasia world premiere, Glassman received a Special Mention from the Best Canadian Director jury, and at the Brooklyn Horror Fest, it won awards for Best Editing and Best Sound Design.
