That is what it is about

Ten years after a toxic explosion at one of the powerful corporation's plants, large parts of the country are under quarantine. The few remaining children there were born deformed - and are being hunted. Like little Peri, who only has scar tissue where her mouth should be. On the run from her uncle, a merciless hunter of the Corporation, she meets a group of other maimed people. Together they embark on a dangerous journey through the wasteland ...

What you should know

A post-apocalyptic mutant version of PETER PAN with a touch of WIZARD OF OZ: even though Evrenol leaves the pure horror genre far behind here, he remains true to the extreme. His story of a family of children, hopeless outsiders who are hunted by a nefarious corporate world, is touching and strangely optimistic, despite the ruination of the overall situation. Particularly impressive: Elif Sevinç as Peri, who carries the film with aplomb - without a single line of dialog.
Original title: Peri: Agzi Olmayan Kiz

Language: Turkish
Cast: Elif Sevinç, Denizhan Akbaba, Özgür Civelek, Mehmet Yilmaz Ak

Direction

Can Evrenol's third feature-length film GIRL WITH NO MOUTH is superficially very different from the rest of his work, not least because of its young protagonists. However, his children's adventure film is anything but a "normal" children's adventure film: rather, the free adaptation of the graphic novel PERI by Cem Özüduru proves to be another emotionally haunting look at a world that lacks empathy and integrity. But fortunately not in terms of cinematic creativity.
