That is what it is about

In 1990, the all-female metal band Jump Scare moves into a dilapidated shack in the middle of the desert to write new songs. Not a good idea, because the atmosphere among them in the godforsaken wasteland isn't exactly great. And is it a coincidence that their idols Blitzgasm were last seen right here? Surely that has nothing to do with the degenerate cannibal family next door, right? Hey, is it true that cows explode if they eat the wrong grass?

What you should know

Our graduation film – party time! This wild, hyper-stylized flick comes just at the right moment. Visually, it's a feast of extremes: it switches from garish neon visuals to washed-out desert images and back again, throws in Monty Python-esque animations, and changes the image format several times. Until it eventually becomes a delirious homage to TCM. In which blood splatters by the hectoliter. The (almost metal-free) soundtrack is also colorful. By the way, there are no jump scares. But all the more jump cuts!

Direction

JUMP SCARE is Donnie Hobbie's feature film debut, and it's an orgiastic celebration of freak humor, music, and slime in all colors, which won the award for best makeup at its premiere at the FilmQuest Festival in October. The cast and crew are largely unknown—with the exception of Eric Roberts, of course, who delivers one of the most magnificent cameos in cannibal film history, at least. So, keep your beer and, above all, your fruit cake handy and have fun!
