That is what it is about

Justine, who is only 16 years old, strides through life with discipline. Good grades at school, a love of animals and the urge to carry on the veterinarian family's lineage give her a good start at veterinary school. There, however, the rules are different and Justine has to break with her vegetarianism during an admission ritual - a supposed trifle that changes the girl's life forever. From then on, an animalistic greed for meat swells, leading to a complete loss of control.

What you should know

What hasn't been reported about RAW? Fainting audiences, comparisons with MARTYRS and A L'INTERIEUR were invoked and even non-genre fans excitedly asked if the film was really unbearable. Well, there is a piece of truth to every rumour! RAW is a sometimes hard to take coming-of-age drama and most certainly an outstanding cannibal film. RAW is irresistibly good! A terrifically directed shocker that makes pure art out of its pretensions!

Direction

Women in the director's chair are an enrichment and break down encrusted structures. With Julia Ducournau, a female director sets out to turn the world of horror films upside down. Her black-humoured cannibal shocker was eyed like a jewel at festivals around the globe. Yet she had not previously attracted attention as a dedicated genre director with either her TV film MANGE or her short film JUNIOR. On closer inspection, however, the step from her earlier works to RAW was only a small one.
