That is what it is about

The future - 1997: The arid land is ruled by the sinister Zeus and his henchmen. In the midst of this inhospitable environment lives a boy who keeps his head above water by selling all kinds of junk. When he meets the strangely eccentric Apple, his life changes fundamentally. Somehow he is drawn into a relentless struggle for life and death. Equipped with a garden gnome turned into a weapon and a turbo glove, they confront the villains...

What you should know

BMX bikes, brightly coloured plastic, comics and synths. TURBO KID is not a slapstick but a declaration of love to the 80s. An amorous, nostalgic feel-good movie with tons of fake blood and guts. What sounds absurd is actually probably the sweetest splatter film ever made. Everything is just right here: from crazy characters, to the adventure setting infused with rubble flair, to the careful yet clear nods to the action thrillers of the 80s.

Direction

A threesome that knows what it wants! François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell stayed true to themselves when they adapted their short film from 2012 into a feature-length film. T IS FOR TURBO was the name of the piece and naturally borrows from the titles of ABCS OF DEATH. Already here you could (should?) have noticed how much they love the genre. But it's not just passion for the 80s and the genre that makes TURBO KID a hit, but the possibility that it might be the best film of the year.
