That is what it is about

In the middle of nowhere, Larissa moves to the countryside for a few days to look after a house. But the isolated location of the property quickly causes unease. Strange footsteps, slamming doors and dead birds are just a few harbingers of impending disaster. When the neighbour Dallas enters her life, Larissa's world is completely turned upside down. She falls deeper and deeper into a maelstrom of madness, hopelessness and violence. Not suspecting what is really in store for her...

What you should know

An idiosyncratic mixture of slasher and giallo that breaks the boundaries of the genre with the hyperstylish aesthetics of director-anarchist Gabriel Carrer. Once again, the Canadian shows that he consistently pursues his own visions and can also compete with the European avant-garde. This surreal trip strengthens Carrer's reputation as the Canadian counterpart to Winding Refn. Multi-layered, intense and at times brute, DEATH ON SCENIC DRIVE is a journey into the depths of the human psyche.

Direction

Gabriel Carrer's films are idiosyncratic and never retort, that much is certain. In his fifth film, the young Canadian continues to cultivate his controversial virtues and remains one of the most innovative directors of our time. With THE DEMOLISHER he created a revenge film that fans will never forget and haters would have preferred never to have seen. It will be similar with his latest work. For us, however, one thing is certain: Carrer is one of the most exciting names of these years!

Our guests at the film screening

Gabriel Carrer, Ry Barrett

His THE DEMOLISHER had already shown that Gabriel Carrer is a director with vision and one whose way of making films is not always easy to digest or to take offence at. All the more reason to talk to the extremely nice Canadian on site. He was flanked by the second appearance of Ry Barrett, who played leading roles in three of the festival's films.
