Short & Hoart 2023 - All info!

In two short film blocks we will again show sixteen hand-picked shorts in 2023. Sixteen fabulous pieces that you simply have to discover. Here is our selection for the tenth HARD:LINE Film Festival. As always: Short & Hoart!

In each block, we show a colorful genre potpourri from around the world. As with the long film selection, it can be sometimes crude, sometimes melancholic, sometimes fun or philosophical. There is something for everyone! All European entries will also compete for the jury award, the Méliès D'Argent, presented by all member festivals of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF). The winners will then go on to the final round at the world's biggest genre festival in Sitges, Spain. There, under the Catalan sun, the best European fantastic short film will be chosen. There are expert juries at all the competitions, and Regensburg is no exception. We want to show you who decides about the weal and woe of the entries.

All non-European films are presented as shining examples of international genre art - out of competition. But not quite. Because every entry can get hold of our "Silver Razor Blade". To do so, you "only" have to win the hearts of the audience. Because it is exactly the audience that will decide who gets to take our little trophy home.

THE JURY

Jury, Chiara Kamnik

Chiara Kamnik

There are not only castles on Lake Wörthersee, but people are also born there. Like Chiara, for example, who likes to gamble in her free time and earns her bread and butter with music as a cultural manager. The only thing missing to complete the triad of nerddom is film. Chiara crowned her love of genre films in 2020 by taking over the festival management of the FRIGHT NIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL in beautiful Pasching, where they've been building castles for genre fans ever since.

Jury, Manuel Magno

Manuel Magno

"Der Manu" is very close to us as a musician in terms of content. But he has also made a name for himself as a journalist. You genre geeks out there know him as a scribbler for DEADLINE and NEON-ZOMBIE, or you have read his texts in booklets. In the last few years, however, he has particularly distinguished himself as one half of FILMFRESSEN. Together he and his best buddy Peter run a YouTube channel and publish the very entertaining podcast CINE:VIEL.

Jury, Nandita Solomon

Nandita Solomon

As co-founder of the Malaysian production company APPARAT, Nandita Solomon has been making a name for herself in the industry for over ten years. Her work as a producer has been screened at the planet's top film festivals, even submitted for Academy Awards, and sold worldwide. Her expertise is as sought after at colleges as it is at film markets and panels. With her and her companion Dain Said, one associates Malaysian genre art on an international level.

PROGRAMMER

Short Film Programmer, Michael Orth

Michael Orth

Why interfere when there are absolute professionals? As founder and co-organizer of the short film festival in Landshut, he has proven expertise. Upon closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that a real genre freak is at work here. With the Shock Blocks and the Deadline Award, the Landshut festival is an address in itself. Michael Orth programs the short film blocks for us!
